Social Anxiety?

I am constantly nervous when interacting with others or even just being out in public. Almost every conversation makes me blush bright red. My heart beats rapidly when I think about upcoming social encounters, even in the most relaxed of environments. What can I do to be normal again?

Answer:
Talk to your doctor about paxil and exposure threapy. That combonation seems to work well.
Try seeing a psychologist.
Yes, well something has made you afraid. Many people are on alert since the terrorism of 9/11 and they wait for the next catastrophe.

But if your fear is overwhelming and deep breathing techniques do not help you regain composure, then maybe you need to see a family physician and get some medication for your panic symptoms. It would be better for you to use deep breathing and time-outs however, if you can also reassure yourself you are safe, before you learn to rely on medications that must be monitored by visits to your doctor. You have 2 choices at your disposal then. And I am not taking your discomfort lightly.

Also as a tip: Ask the doctor's receptionist over the phone if the doctor treats panic attacks and his method of treatment before you spend your money only to be denied relief. Good luck! Breathe deeply! That's right! Keep breathing! @8-)
Social Anxiety Disorder

It's more than just shyness

Most people feel shy or self-conscious in social situations. Speaking in public, going on a job interview or even asking for a date can make anyone feel shy or anxious. The symptoms are familiar: your heart pounds, your hands tremble or you feel like you have "butterflies" in your stomach. But this type of anxiety is temporary, and once you get through the situation, life goes on as usual.

If your anxiety about social situations is so severe that it disrupts your daily life and relationships to the point where you are sick with worry, you may have social anxiety disorder. Social anxiety disorder is an excessive, persistent fear of social or performance situations. This website is designed to help you understand social anxiety disorder so that you or a loved one can distinguish its symptoms from normal anxiety and get the necessary treatment and relief.

you are normal, you need to go to the doctor and tell him/her the symptoms you have...a pill may be prescibed, and some therapy might be suggested.....I have it and I see a therapist on a regular basis and take medicine for it...fighting the urge to stay inside is hard, but you can do it and overcome the fear if you just listen to your body and how you react in certain social events---I avoid things I know are going to bring me back to that state of mind....there are several self-help books out there just make sure you read through the book and see that it relates directly to your symptoms--some books are not helpful at all....do some research and breathing exercises really do help in situations you cannot avoid...hope i helped
3 things you can try: cognitive therapy, an SSRI drug like paxil, or a tranquilzer drug like xanax. I would consider taking xanax AS NEEDED and in an emergency as it can lead to more problems.

But nobody with social anxiety gets over their fears entirely even with the best doctors. You would just be setting yourself up for disappointment if you're looking for a cure.
