I know an individual who has a mental condition and I am curious about a question.?
Is it possible the marijuana he smoked caused this mental condition that he is suffering today?
Answer:
Schizophrenia is caused usually when an individual usually as a child experiences a traumatic event in which they can not deal with it. The brain will block out the events and depending on the severity of the event it will remain inside the person and basically torture them at random times with memories and feelings and sometimes they can even feel the abuse happening again and again
This is a very sad state to live in the person has a lot of pain and confusion and will see like an alter state of impossible events (or hallucinations), until they work out the memories by talking to someone and expressing their feelings to unlock the past.
Drugs from illegal narcotics like PCP, LSD to over the counter aspirins effects are temporary and will not last or leave a lasting effect such as schizophrenia no matter how many times they do them. Drugs (all of them) are not going to help and should only be used as a last resort. Medication for schizophrenia is nothing more than a sleeping pill and the condition never improves (a few ocassional temporary exceptions), and should never be expected to "cure" or even improve the persons mental health. Avoid alcohol it doesn't help anyone in any way.
well schizophrenia cannot be caused by the intake of marijuana and that too once...its a chemical disorder in the brain that develops over time
No, it didn't cause it, it just enhanced it!
there are a LOT of pills that you should never drink alcohol with. You could check on line for that med - to see how it reacts with alcohol.
It is very very unlikely that the marijuana caused this. if it was laced with something? maybe, but i doubt it.
I'm in college right now studying to be a drug/alcohol counselor, and getting my major in psychology. I'd say that it is unlikely that marijuana caused this mental condition...more likely is that the condition led him to use marijuana in the first place...as a form of self-medication, and he didn't know he was doing that. I will say that using marijuana is not at all the best thing to use for medication for schizophrenia. That combined with alcohol and pills is likely making the condition much worse over time. Meth amphetamine can cause symptoms that look like paranoid schizophrenia. However, this usually only happens with long term, heavy use of meth amphetamine. So it is more likely, as I said, that he had this mental condition (to a lesser degree, perhaps) started long before he started using drugs and alcohol heavily. Many people who are addicted to drugs are self-medicating and they don't even know it, in an attempt to try and control the distressing mental health symptoms that they are having. The problem is, as time goes on, these drugs actually begin to add to and amplify the condition, making it worse. Your friend needs drug/alcohol treatment- as well as professional mental health treatment. With drug and alcohol treatment his mental health symptoms will improve. But he also needs proper care for the schizophrenia. I hope this answers your question!
If it was a one-time use of PCP or meth, it probably didn't cause the condition, but it almost definitely exacerbated it. Some people are more sensitive to substances, and those substances really mess with your brain.
Also, don't drink alcohol with prescription pills! EVER!
There is a condition known as "drug induced psychosis" which can result from the use of marijuana or other drugs. The effects tend to last for a brief period of time. Use of marijuana can also precipitate the first episode of an illness such as schizophrenia. In this case, the illness persists. As others have mentioned, the use of alcohol and other drugs can be very problematic if a person is suffering from an illness such as schizophrenia.
"Is it possible the marijuana he smoked caused this mental condition that he is suffering today?"
No I don't think so. Marijuana (cannabis sativa) does contain THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and is a psychoactive substance. However, it has never been known to CAUSE schizophrenia. However, you did mention it could have been "dusted" with PCP (phenylcyclohexylpiperidine) or Angel Dust which is known to be a hallucinogenic neurotoxin. However, this in and of itself would not account for your friend's disorder.
There is a psychological diagnosis for schizoaffective patients like this called "dual diagnosis". His disorder COULD be coupled with his obvious ongoing abuse of canniboids, pcp, crytsal meth, and ideally cocaine (i.e. crack) and a family history of schizophrenia (i.e. hearing voices, clinical paranoia, etc.) and/or bi-polar depression .
This disease's cause is still pretty much an unknown thing. Nobody really knows what brings on schizophrenia. But there are many theories. However, his obvious constant substance abuse will make it even worse! IMO he needs to go 'cold turkey' on everything INCLUDING nicotine and alcohol to clean his system out. He needs to go to psychiatric supervised group therapy, ALANON, and maybe even AA meetings. If he's on a SSRI or a MOAI, Haldol, or Respiradol and antidepressants he needs to stop drinking booze while taking these prescriptions as alcohol IMO tends to have a negative mitigating effect on these pharmaceuticals.
It sounds like your friend is SELF-MEDICATING himself! He's 'at-risk' RIGHT NOW and if your really love him you will put together an 'intervention' tomorrow to save his life (et al).
Scary world? God forbid he doesn't have a loaded weapon like that college kid in Blacksburg VA in the news recently. Know where I'm going with this PsychoSam?
