I have a sleeping problem...where to get help or do you know?

I'm 17 years old and every night i have problem to go to sleep. Before i had even been sleeping with my mom! My fear, well is very childish, i'm sure you would think from your perspective but it's really takes a grip on me. I often think excessively like what happens in the scary movies, like someone would walk in, kill me, and looking horribly ugly and intimidating. or i would look at something abstract and start making a person's face out of it, and these days, i have read the famous book "and there was none" by agatha christine and i know it's just a novel, but i keep on thinking about it, and the killer and was so intimidated by the book.. like not only could i have not asleep, even when i'm awake, i have to constantly switch my eyes left to right, up and down. I always had this problem, sometimes worse than others, i'm almost 18, and it's not getting any better, if not worse. i need help. it's so ridicously i know. what should i do? i'm fine during daytime when some1 isin house

Answer:
what you are talking about is not ridiculous. to you it is a very real feeling. but you are to old to be sleeping with your mom. what you are describing is anxiety. anxiety is a medical problem that can be dealt with through therapy and sometimes with medication if it is causing you hardship on a day to day level. you might start by talking to your family doctor and see what he/she has to say about it. it can be overcome in most cases and i think in your case it can be. someone told me ine time that people who have these types of problems are very intelligent and have a wonderful imaginations. i agree with them i think we do.
ok... before i tackle this. i'm just going to let you know.. that killer.. could easily kill you and your mom ... No way she protects you. maybe 30 secs top she gives you to runway from the killer before he's after you..

having said that... besides sleeping pills and Nyquil... i say you start training to take on this monster... train like Karate Kid... because its not like the killer is going to get while you sleep... he/she/it is going to want to make sure your awake... but little will they know that you've been training to kick its ***...

but really... Nyquil. the green one..
I think you need some psychological counseling. No sleeping aid is going to cure you of the problem you are having. You need to get to the root of your fears and your obsessive way of thinking. Perhaps anti depressants or some type of drug may be prescribed in the long run, but you really need to talk this out with a professional. You would be surprised how with just a few sessions you may start to see improvements of your symptoms.

I always do the "relax" technique with my youngest, who says he "doesn't know how to go to sleep" yet goes out like a lightswitch 2 minutes later half the time. Anyway I do a head to do relax thing with him and he's almost always out by the time I finish or within minutes afterwards.

Just lie comfortably and tell yourself "relax your forehead, your eyes, ears, jaw, neck, shoulders, arms, chest, etc. etc down to your toes...do it slowly of course and feel a heat and warmth flow through. Just focusing on that will empty your mind.

Even just lying there and doing a mantra, like saying "om" as you breathe and exhale...it forces you to focus on meditating and clearing your mind.

Get some books at the library or look online or go to chapters...and pick up some techniques on relaxation and getting to sleep at night.

Meanwhile try not to focus on things that seem to freak you out...remove them from your room and make it as warm and inviting so you can sleep easier.
Try yoga and meditation for relaxation. Do not watch scary movies, there is too much of scary stuff portrayed in the movies. And do not read thriller stories as you get too preoccupied with them, why not do some light reading or read humorous books? Exercise, listen to upbeat music, they will relax your mind. Rely on the strength of prayer to help you get through your fears. Also follow some deep breathing techniques and pray before you go to sleep. If you are still afraid, talking to a professional might help.
