Some people believe that not eating is a control issue for anorexics - they feel as though they've succeeded if they can control what they eat. People who overeat have an opposite problem with control - they've let the urge to eat take over, and they often feel powerless to do anything about it. While someone is overeating, all of their problems are masked - as soon as they've finished eating, all the bad things come back (and even multiply).
