How can I releieve paranoia/anxiety associated with marijuana?
Answer:
Stop smoking dope.
A similar thing happened to me 30 plus years ago. I know this isn't the answer you want, but stop smoking dope. I stopped and my mental health improved.
Welcome to being an adult...This happens because you SHOULD be worried about your girlfriend doing coke and the older you get the more you have to be worried about. Im not against weed, but it really isn't the answer. Forget the Old you and be the new you. Love peace and happiness
Here's an idea - face reality and quit smoking weed or any other drug! Do you really want to be the old you? The old stoner you? Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Don't you see a real life and a career for yourself that should and could not include drugs?
As a mental health professional with 20+ years experience in substance abuse as well, now retired, I can tell you the most obvious answer. Stop smoking marijuana. I know this may not be what you want to hear, but if you want to stop the paranoia, you'll have to stop the marijuana. And it'd be very good if your girlfriend stopped her cocaine too, but, that's another issue and another person. YOU, however, can stop YOUR paranoia by stopping the use of marijuana . . .period! I know it's extremely simple of an answer, but I can tell you, from 20+ years clinical experience in mental health and substance abuse, that's just about the only truthful answer you'll ever get. Good luck to ya. God Bless you.
what you need to do is stick your head between your legs and breath slowly. when you worry you start to breath to fast even though you may not notice this leads to a panic attack makes yer body fell all icky, like hot waves are going threw your body you become light headed because all the o2 goin to your head so putting yer head between your legs for a minute or two cuts the air intake and helps you relax same idea as a paper bag. but not as aby normal lookin it happens to me alot after years of smoking your body starts to hate you and changes the chemicals in yer brain just adapt with it put heads between legs and relax enjoy the high it wont kill you what ever you do though if you become short of breath dont take deap breathes just breath slow and normal it will pass its just the smoke collecting in the pockets of your lungs burping helps that. when your ready to quit your mind will go back to normal.
Quit smoking it. You'll feel better.
The obvious answer is quit smoking pot. If you are getting this when you are not smoking, then congrats, you are causing permanent damage to your brain. You need to stop smoking now, and hope the damage remits some, and Doesn't;t get worse. you are 21 and a Sociology major, do you really no nothing about how drugs (all drugs not just the illegal ones) effect the brain.
Those panic attacks are not just "in your mind;" it's a physical reaction that includes higher blood pressure and shortness of breath in addition to the racing thoughts. Just because you had the first attack while you were high doesn't mean it was related to the pot. Try these things: stop all caffeine, including cola drinks and coffee; don't do cocaine or stimulants at all; exercise daily to burn off adrenaline; eat less refined sugar and flour; get enough sleep. Ask your doctor to prescribe an anti-anxiety medication like xanax, if all else fails; you can take it as needed when you feel panicky.
switch to beer.

Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling bad. Weed is obviously a trigger for you, and with that kind of chemical trigger there is little you can do about it - except of course stop smoking weed. If the attacks continue after you have stopped smoking (permanantly) the following steps should help:
1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better.
2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: www.livinglifetothefull.com
3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads in you put "progressive muscle relaxation" into Google (e.g. lots of universities have them as free downloads)
With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!
