Overcoming fear of horror films?
Answer:
Sounds like you may have the same prob I do...I love scary films but hate the nightmares, and I have them without fail! Even if the movie isn't scary but just bloody. Instead of not watching them, I started watching more horror films and I've become desensitized. But you say you jump at the toaster...I do things like that too..sleep with a light on if my husband isn't in bed also...things like that. Let me tell you..It's caused by an anxiety/panic disorder. There are plenty of people scared of horror movies, but it sounds like more than that in your case. It wouldn't hurt to try an anti-anxiety medication and see if that helps. Also, look at other areas of your life and see if there are other things causing extreme fear or anxiety. You could always just stop watching, but you may want to try these other avenues. Living with fear is no fun! Good luck!
Simply know that they're not real and computer generated.
It's physically and practically impossible for them to happen in real life. Plus, most things in movies are impossible to happen in real life. Chances are high for such things to happen.
Plus, seeing them over and over again can give you an idea of what's gonna happen next in other films.
Overcoming fears makes you stronger. But it's the overcoming that's a pain. You'll get used to it.
Hope I helped
Just do not watch scary movies. Not everybody likes scary movies and big deal about the coasters just don't go on them and go on other rides and who cares if your friends don't like that.
I have a sensitivity to horrors and tend to have nightmares after I watch anything remotely scary. I still years later choose not to watch them. Just be you!
watch a few with friends, and poke fun at them a little to help lighten the mood, after awhile youll get used to them
Try this... watch a scary movie with the sound off. It's actually very funny. You see how stupid it is once there is no sound.
The music, and screams, and the impact the sound has on your level of fear is astounding.
Once you do that you will always be able to recognize that the creators of these movies are screwing with you.
If you're forced to go to a movie theater... wear earplugs... you'll be laughing the whole time.while everyone else screams.
Trust me... try it before you judge.
its a good idea to keep in mind that al those actors got their check and went home after the shoot was done.
when watching a gore film or whatever, pause it and try to figure out how they did that effect.
my son was that way with films that were scary when he was a little guy and I would stop them and explain how this and that was done..he got into the FX and would , after that, try to work that out for himself...it takes the edge off anythiing if u de-mystify it.
Don't watch them! And go with your friends when it's a movie you want to see.
Everyone has their favorite type movies they see. And the type of movies they don't see. I, myself, hate sappy romantic movies. To this day, I can't sit long enough to see the whole Pretty Woman movie. Why would I need therapy for that?
This is why there's a large variety of movies.
Well, normally the fear of the scary movies is supposed to happen, guessing since the one who made the movie wanted you to get scared and all.
but If It's effecting your life then maybe you should try to get some help from a friend or Try to think about other things when you go to bed. I know where you're coming from, scary movies like 'The Grudge' kept me up at night for almost a year.
Try to get your mind off of the scary movie and maybe get a little therapy If you have to.
Hope This helped
Well, I'm a long way from being squeamish but I am often very offended by modern horror movies; particularly the likes of the "Saw" and "Hostel" movies. But in your case it seems more like a fear of "shocks" - anything that makes you jump. It seems quite likely that is was something that happened when you were a child; you had some kind of fright, maybe several of them, and those fears are still with you. You might need the help of a psychiatrist to get to the root cause.
