Are you more able to deal with negative emotional events having studied psychology?

I think i am, i know for instance about aversion, so i recognise this in me, and act accordingly.

Did it change your thinking or reactions

Answer:
Well...awareness of medical conditions and understanding from a clinical point of view is very helpful. But I've found that self diagnosis only goes so far. The sub-conscious is a tricky thing, very crafty. So you have to watch that while you might think you're successfully diagnosing an issue, and you might have, being sure you came up with a workable solution is an iffy thing. Don't be surprised if you think you've solved an issue, only to find down the road that it's hiding symptoms in some way, or masked negative behavior so you stopped recognizing it.

There's nothing more dangerous to yourself than being convinced you diagnosed a problem of your own, and come up with a solution...all in one easy step!

But yes, it can help in recognizing issues in yourself. Just keep in mind that continual war of self preservation of id vs. desire of your ego!
