Why do women generally drive with both hands and men with one hand on the steering wheel?
Answer:
With the cell phone, makeup, brushes, perfume, and dental floss... was thinking that women drive with no hands...
Hmmm...
But I'd say the trend you are referring to would be because men like to keep an arm on the door frame or an arm rest.
We lounge out more.
I use one hand most of the time.
Because women are worse drivers and need the extra hand to make sure they don't get into an accident
i personally have no idea but i hav a geus. i think it is becase it is just more comfortable for men that way other then girls.
Cause men are the shiz. We dominate the road. And to show how easily we dominate women on the pavement, we drive with one hand, just to say "We're better drivers, and we do it with half the control".
They don't, especially if there are kids in the car and/or they are on a cellphone. My dad worked in insurance and has told me this is often the case with women drivers.
bcoz dey r more scared of having a crash?
We feel more safe tht way. Guys just like to live on the edge, i guess.
I do not now, But they should be driving with two hands... not one.
umm i find this statement to be relatively false! Dont u think thats kinda sexist? It doesnt matter wut sex a person is everyone is THEIR OWN PERSON.they do wut they want.u kant jus generalize a sex as driving differently.
Because women are usually more safer when it comes to driving.
I'm a woman. I usually drive with one hand. That way I always have one hand free...I can prop my arm on the door.I can grab my drink...I can throw things to the kids in the back seat (don't worry, nothing that will hurt them!)
becaues ststicis show that hummingbirds bleed grape jelly
we like security
As you say, this is not a rule, but i'd say is because we used to be more cautios than men.
It's a guy thing. Most men drive with one hand because it is considered more macho and cool. It is a throwback from the days before power steering in the late 1960s, when one would have use a great deal of muscle to steer a car.
i think it's just all about being scared (i'm not one of them :)
Everyone should drive with two hands. It's safer, it makes more sense. There's nothing else you can do with your other hand while you're driving.
I guess males feel diminished when they use safe practices. Even knowing that this is the way to drive, it's embarrassing for them. Like someone else is really looking at how many hands do you use to drive.
First of all i have to commend you on adding "There ought to be exceptions, but I'm asking about the general trend," cause that would have been my first comment is that you are asking in generlities and not all men use one hand and women two. So great job, good thnking!
Anyways, I would think some men do the one handed thing for any or all these reasons:
They think its cool or toughlooking (the whole macho thing)
They are lazy (may fall under "its cool" a well)
they don't care (again... "cool not to care" like a stereotypical "man's man"s motto)
wants to prove he can do it
Rebelious (Mom always nagged them to use two hands, so they don't)
maybe its just more comfortable for that person
lost his arm in a war? :)
possible reasons for women to use two hands:
Safety, they actually care
they are nervous when they drive
they were raised to use two hands, so they do (anti-rebelious)
they're not lazy nor irresponsible
they're hands are glued to the steering wheel
they really like the idea of clocks (ya know placement of hands... come on its a joke) :)
but yeah its simply a "cool" thing... its a trend for sure.
who said that?? i'm a woman and i drive according to my mood sometimes with one hand and other times with both hands ^_^
in my family its the other way around, my mom drives with her knees, balances her check book, and texts all at the same time, while being on the high way going 20 miles over the speed limit, and my dad drives with both hands, very cautious, and drives 1 mile below the speed limit, just to be safe.
I believe this to be true. Most men drive with one hand at 12o'clock most women and sissy men drive with two hands at 10 and 2. It's funny you ask this question anyway my wife and myself did our own little survey on this very question. We must be some kinda losers or something not sure why we did it.
cause my driving is so erratic - I need both hands on the steering wheel !
I myself learned to drive with one hand only, leaving the other free to grope my female passengers.
I did a study about this in college. Most of the men said one hand was enough to handle the car. women said they'd rather play it safe and use both hands, they indicated that nascar drivers use 2 hands at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock and that was good enough for them. I, too, use the two handed approach. People who teach defensive driving find 2 handed drivers do better than one.
Guys like to live on the edge and show "yeah, we dominate". It has been hereidity since the first man. Woman tend to use both hands because this way they can have a proper grip on what they r doing. They r not really scared of the crash. It's just... natural for them.
male drivers must have one free hand available for strategic scratching
* cop350zx , above ^ also had a good one !
studies suggest,
typically, males tend to be more physically relaxed as they think the car is part of them
... an extension of their own self

your premise is false
Well i wud say that all r equal and nothing can be generalised based on gender.
But this cant b denied that men n women hv some inherent differences and what u r talking abt is a general trend and thats right exceptions can always b there.
Well acc to me,guys r more into these technical kind of thgs.
Infact talking abt driving, they learn it much faster than girls.I m myself a girl but thats what i hv seen.
So in a way, mayb guys find it more easy to control and drive singlehandedly. And another reason can be that women r concerned more about safety than showing off their driving skills.
Whatever, but eevryone shud always drive using both the hands.SAFETY comes first.
