Do animals suffer mental disabilities just like humans and if they do, do we give them the same medicine?

Answer:
My cat absolutely loved our dog, and when the dog passed away, the cat mourned her for more than a year. He started to lick his fur off of his legs, and cry at the door, leading to the basement, where we had kept her body for a few hours before burial.

We took the cat to the same vet who had taken care of our dog and knew of the situation. He diagnosed our cat with depression and prescribed him with a form of kitty prozac. He no longer takes it as it made him too spacey. He still mourns the dog that passed two years ago, but he's doing much better now.
My cat suffered from anxiety and was put on Buspirone by his vet.
