Why do we feel the need to say "Ow" when we get hurt?
Answer:
cuz it's better than saying fxxk
Well, I sometimes say "SSSSHHHHHEEEEEIIIIIIIIITTTTTT... but I must admit, "ow" is quicker, and when I'm in pain, speed is primary in expression and relief. God Bless you.
"ow "is to let others know we are in pain.We like some sympathy or help with our predicament.Because when we are by our self we never complain out loud,do we ?
maybe that was a grunt we used to express pain when we were cave people
This is not scientific, xcaiusx, just my personal thought. But, the physical event of pain is transmitted through our nerves, generating a measurable chemical-electric response. That response causes a great disturbance throughout our nervous systems, much like a tsunami. My "theory" is that we cry out in a useful discharge of some of that energetic disturbance. I believe that crying out when we get hurt is one of the ways our bodies autonomically works to maintain homeostatic balance and harmony.
because when we get hurt we react. so maybe thats how we react when we get hurt, by saying ow.
Maybe it's from back when we were more primitive.
It could be a way of signalling to others, that there's danger.
Also it may be instinct - a dog cries very loud, if someone step on its tail - in nature, that may be a defence, a way of scaring attacking predators off..
just my thoughts tho.. :)
The emission of certains sounds generate certain effects in the body and are actually conducive to healing. Studies have been done on such things as meditation practices and it was found that certain syllables actually induced endorphin response in the brain and other chemical changes in the body. So in a nutshell, saying "Ow" helps in the healing process. As far as the actual word, it is determined by culture and what we are programmed or used to saying. A study of languages bears this out in that different cultures have different words, expressions or combination of sounds to express different feelings, emotions, or even pain.
I always curse. (ouch?) Somehow bringing curses to bear upon an inanimate object seems right.
we are actually saying Ah sh*t! but half way through the "Ah" we realize we better not say sh*t so we try to close our mouth before the sh*t comes out and we end up saying "ah-woo" or "ow" which is short for Ah— ooh, I better not say "sh*t"
