Am I depressed?
I'm sixteen, and I've been losing weight like crazy for the past year, with no exercise/diet whatsoever. I'm constantly tired and stressed. I don't enjoy eating as I used to (I've had to stop myself from throwing up after meals at times) and can't concentrate on anything. Is that depression? If not, what is it? And what can I do about it?
Answer:
It sounds like depression along with an eating disorder. Please seek help. The best of luck to you, honey.
Those could all be symptoms of depression. See if you can talk to your family doctor about it.
Wow, sounds depressed. I recomend you see a dctor, because you may become seriously ill by eating so little.
don,t worry i had the same problem
Could very well be depression or just fatigue. When you feel fatigued you have a hard time concentrating, eatting or even doing the most simplest of tasks.
Get good nights sleep. Eat breakfast in the morning. Something with eggs and fruit.
Drink alot of water through out the day.
It seems you may be depressed.
Get a gym membership, after a big workout you should be so screwed that you will have to eat.By keeping that a routine, your metabolism should rise n you should feel better.
+ Endorphins from working out will make you happier
+ Doing light weights (as you are 16 and may screw up your bones by doing intense weights)
+ This should help you sleep at night
+ Stress may drop if you feel better about yourself.
Depression usually includes being in a bad mood all (or most) of the time. Do you feel like you're in a bad mood for no apparent reason during the day? If so, it might be depression. However, there are many other reasons why you may be tired, stressed, and losing weight. First of all, are you getting enough sleep? If you're sleeping less than 7 hours per night, you're basically suffering from sleep deprivation which WILL lead to being to losing weight and being tired and stressed. Also, do you have a full-time job right now? Since you're 16, I'm gonna assume that you go to school, so if you have a full-time job on top of it, that's another reason why you're in bad shape -- simply because you're overworking yourself.
Setting those reasons aside, you could also have a medical problem: low blood sugar on one end of the extreme, and diabetes on the other end (anyone can get it--not just old people), high cholesterol, etc. Also, look at your diet -- are you eating enough fruits and vegetables or is your diet straight junk food? If you live off junk food, as many teenagers do, you're basically not getting enough nutrients to sustain a healthy lifestyle, which is causing the physical symptoms you're experiencing right now.
You should probably visit your family's physician and have him/her run some basic blood tests on you -- it's fairly easy to figure out what's wrong nowadays. However, on your side, you can try to get more sleep, work fewer hours, and eat healthier. Here's another suggestion: try to get involved in some sort of physical activity. It sounds like a strange suggestion given the fact that you're tired all the time and I'm recommending working out, but here's the reason why: your body naturally produces endorphins -- chemicals that cause depression and bad mood. There are only three ways to have your body release them outside: work out, eat chocolate and have sex. All three pretty much achieve the same result and if you pay attention, you'll notice how significantly your mood elevates at the end. That is because endorphines have left your bloodstream through bodily fluids, and you no longer feel depressed. While I don't endorse consuming large quantities of chocolate, and having sex is your own personal decision, working out every other day or at least 3 times a week will improve your health SIGNIFICANTLY. While at first it will feel like the opposite is happening and you're tired even more than you were in the past, after about 2 months you'll feel better than ever, and as long as you continue to work out, you're likely to get rid of your symptoms of being stressed and tired for good and will stop weight loss as muscles begin to build.
may be anorexia, go to a counselor
Aside from the usual signs, ask yourself this question, "How do I feel about myself?" If its a fairly negative answer, that points pretty squarely to depression. If its fairly good (and remember, be honest with yourself), than its probably not. I'd recommend going to a professional therapist (not a physician) to anwer your question and recommend help.
Hi there .
sorry to hear about your current condition. I think you need to start by looking at if there are any current stresses in your life.
there could be several reasons for your current condition.it is possible that you are difficient in something . However given you have mentioned that you are constitantly stressed this indicated either anxiety or depression or both. I suggest that you make an appointment as soon as possible with your doctor and dicscuss your sympyoms. Your doctor will definately make an accurate diagnoses and prescribe you with the appropriate medication if needed or refer you to a psychologist if he or she beleives your symptoms are psychologial. I wish you all the best.
You could be depressed, or there could be a physical cause to your symptoms. Weight loss and fatigue are common to quite a number of ailments.
You need to make an appointment with the doctor as soon as possible for a complete physical examination. Be honest about your symptoms, so that the doctor will know how to treat them.
Please do this, so that you can feel better soon and be able to enjoy life once again.
You answered your own question. It is STRESS. Take a look at what is going on in your life and what could be causing you so much stress.
Visit a doctor, tell him your problem, I'm sure he will refer you to a professional that can help you
Get checked for caeliac disease. It is a simple blood test.
It seems like you may hate your body and self image. You may not even realize it and if so then somewhere in there you are angry with yourself and everything in general. If you think that something like this can lead to depression, then your seeing the top of the ice cube. If it were me, I would start to take up an activity or hobby or person or place that makes me feel great or at least no crappy. Then build on it.
All the things you described could be stress or they could be signs of being ill. With depression, you need to ask yourself do you want to spend time with your friends? Are you withdrawing from events that previously made you happy? Are you sleeping all the time because of a lack of interest. Do you think of dying. Do you feel scared or anxious a lot of the time. Depression had different degrees and it must never be taken for granted. Depression is a killer when people are not aware of it's prescence. I hope this helped a little.
Maybe you are sick. See your family physician, and be sure to relay all your symptoms. Good luck!
I had that too. It went away. For a while my parents believed I had a parasite of some kind, but then my teacher at school had the guts to ask me if I had an abortion? Everyone had crazy ideas about what was going on. My doctor concluded it was probably a teenage phase, and that loosing your apatite is normal after a stressful breakup or something crazy going on in ones life. You should go out to eat, and work up a craving for food, and learn to love what is good for you again! Add some good humor. Reader's Digest says, "Laughter is the best medicine!" I think that is so true! I can't really tell you what is wrong, but many people go through it, and turn out okay. Going to a doctor, while in your condition may help you if you have something serious.
You will be ok.
The first sign of solution is already there as you have asked the question. That shows you want and need help.
Please talk to your parents about this. If you are not close to your parents, please see a good and well known psycho therapist.
I wish you well and good health.
you could very well be! talk to someone like your parents if you don't feel comfortable to talk to them please talk to somone. get some help before your on a rollercoaster you can't stop. life is like that sometimes, you may not realize you are depressed but hey somthing might be wrong.
could be fatigue, could be depression, perhaps anorexic if you haven't been eating enough.. solution take 3 tsps of cornstarch follow with a glass of milk. Cinnamon is an antidepressant.. 3 tsps of that. Follow with a warm drink like a jasmine tea or rosehip tea. Serious strong depression take St. John's Wort tea.. drink twice daily!
