Does incest cause birth defects in children who are born from blood related relatives?
Answer:
Yes it causes birth defects amongst incestuous relationships. I am sorry but I don't have a link for you, but I can say that a love for your blood is fine, but a sexual relationship is morally repugnant.
yes
Yes. I don't have any links, but you can look up the story of a German couple that are actually brother and sister.
They've had two kids, and while both kids LOOK normal, sure enough, they have chronic health problems (forgot what they are). It's an absolute guarantee. MDs can predict it with 100% accuracy.
LOL I wouldn't marry a person I'm related to if someone were to even threaten my life! I can hardly stand a person of my same race, and much less so a person who I'm related to! Yuckee!
I wonder if you are from the south and/or a family who has a family tree that has no branches...straight up.
Are you are redneck?! Anyways, regarding your question, personally I have seen that in some societies--such as the people of Pakistan--that they see that it is ok to marry your first cousin. Their kids turn out normally biologically, but I feel that psychologically they have problems. I personally feel that more research needs to be made in this area. The people of India, on the other hand, do not support cousin marriages. yes, there are HUGE differences between the people of both countries.
Hope this helps. Remember, there is no shortages of great people. Please don't view family reunions as "date night". That just is not right!!
this actually shouldnt be in the psychology section..but a science section
birth defects are not a matter of soft science.
I don't' know of any links but think about this say you have the gene for sickle cell disease and you marry or have a baby with some on from your family who also carries the gene for the disease that means that your children have a 50 percent chance that they will have the condition. But if you as a carrier marry someone who's not a carrier the chances of your child having the deieses drops to less than 1 percent. Your children might be carriers but they likely won't have the disease. My girl friend had a son who had cystic fibrosis and that is some thing very rare in the Black population. Not knowing that she was a carrier and that her husband was a carrier they passed the condition on to their son. Now the percentage of that happen would have been much greater if she had married say her cousin who also probably carried the same gene. That is the main reason that incest is bared and the fact that interbreeding tens to produce children with more birth defects and other issues. In my family where the majority of children have learning disabilities if we inter married than the possibility of all the children having some form of learning disabilities would sky rocket. You don't need links just common sense and a knowledge of genetics.
Children born from incest can be mentally challenged and have other problems as well. It is best to not go there if you have a choice.
Incest has nothing to do with love in my opinion. A person can love his/her parents, siblings, cousins, etc... but one needs to think long and hard about the kind of "love" it is. I don't think a person can be "in love" with them in the sense that they would want to be partners. This person may just have an issue with needing affection. I would suggest to the person who has this issue to seek counseling.

this is one report.of many...there is much more information on the subject.
um well depends on how close you are to them if its a brother sister mom dad then most likely yes if its a cousin maybe but there is a lot less of a chance
http://www.lvpei.org/resources/blindness... Also, i've read about this village in america where they marry only their own kin or something like that and their childrens have all sorts of illness. FOR ME, incest is wrong because i can NEVER imagine falling in love with any of my relatives. Its just GROSS FOR ME! Goodluck to you anyway.
It depends on how much inbreeding has been going on. If it is a one case senerio, chances are that nothing much would happen. However, if it is a case of an isolated population, there would be more chances for defective genes to express them selves.
The most safe thing to do is to have no children. Especially if every one in town is your cousin and your true love is your sibling.
Inbreeding leads to an increase in homozygosity (the same allele at the same locus on both members of a chromosome pair). This occurs because close relatives are much more likely to share the same alleles than unrelated individuals. This is especially important for recessive alleles that happen to be deleterious, which are harmless and inactive in a heterozygous pairing but, when homozygous, can cause serious developmental defects. Such offspring have a much higher chance of death before reaching the age of reproduction, leading to what biologists call inbreeding depression, a measurable decrease in fitness due to inbreeding among populations with deleterious recessives. Recessive genes, which can contain various genetic problems, appear more often in the offspring of procreative couplings whose members both have the same gene. For example, the child of persons who are both hemophiliac has a 25% chance of having hemophilia.
