How do I deal with innapropriate laughter?

Whenever I hear something horrible, I have the urge to laugh hysterically, and often do. But I feel dreaful while I am doing it. It is just so wrong to laugh- but why do I do that when I really feel like crying?

Answer:
It's good for you.
Becuase you are insane.
this happens to me too. when i start to laugh i bite my tongue or think of something HORRIBLE
When a person hears or sees something dreadful that they can't properly process, they may laugh. It is just a nervous reaction. You don't know what else to do in the moment.
Maybe you've had right frontal lobe injury or you are schizophrenic
you're probably blocking out reality...

try this: when you're in that situation, think of a totally innocent inanimate object - a tree, a mailbox, a pen. then when you think you've got your bearings, that's when you react. deviating your thoughts will stop the incessant urge to laugh and you'll be able to react to the situation appropriately.
That is called a nervous laugh. My mother does that! One time my grandmother fell off the staircase and my mother was there with her when it happen. My grandmother was bleeding a little and my mother was shocked than started laughing. THe only time she doesn't laugh is when something happens to her. When something happens to her like a fall for example she starts cursing, I mean BIG curses!
It's nerves. The fact that you try not to laugh means you are building up adrenaline before you even start, it's like a fear of being in the spotlight. I was the same at my wedding, and my grans funeral. I knew I was going to giggle so I tried to breathe really deeply and stop myself, but I could feel the adrenaline pumping through and making me feel dizzy and I ended up giggling even more hysterically. It's awful, especially at a funeral because people don't understand that it's not because you find something funny. I have managed to work through it now, but only through building up my confidence which was the main problem in the first place.
Perhaps you really see the humor in what others deem 'horrible'. A sensible thing is to either forego the dubious pleasure of fraternizing with the shallow-minded who love to fret, or feign 'appropriate' dismay at their silly problems. Cultivating phrases like 'oh dear' and 'how appalling' are the stock--in-trade of the rubberfaced salesmen of this planet. Imagine the coffin salesman who must put on his 'funeral face' all day long.
I don't know why you do it. Put a rubber band around your wrist, and when you feel the giggles snap yourself with the rubber band.
