What are the disadvantages of group counseling?

Answer:
privacy will not be an option...right?
You get less attention for your own issues bacause more people have to have talk time. In Groups all group members know your buisness - no privacy.
Another disadvantage is that you have to hear other peopls problems even if you don't give a ____.
Your problems will not be adequately addressed. It might also be frustrating and no solutions or positive insights may come out of it because of the group dynamic. The members of the counseling group may rub each other the wrong way adn the session may turn out counter-productive. You may not get to choose the members of the group you will be counseling with.
Group hugs,yuk!
No.at times you want a one on one.
Plus the more people in the group the more dynamics you have to deal with.
There is nothing like the experience of trying to get your say out when everyone else is putting their two cents in.
But,if you must you must.
No Privacy, very limited one on one help. Numerous distractions...ETC.

You fine some are very defensive, (aggressive or silly), others will not share, however in my experience, it is a very beneficial modality.
An experience leader, will find way's to circumvent the the negatives. Both are forms of avoidance. I don't think I said this all that well, but I'm going to let it go.
I have been in group counseling for anxiety. It was a very positive experience for me. The counselor made it a point, at every meeting, to respond to each of us. It was a big group & all of us wanted to vent & we were given that chance.
No disadvantages here. To sum it up, you'll be lucky if you get a good group counselor. It makes all the difference.
