If you come to america , should u and ur partner assilmate into our culture?
Answer:
As a Muslim American, I was born here in the United States. Usually, women don't want to change the way they look, people think that the husband forces her, but that isn't all true. Muslim women have minds of their own and Americans don't want to believe that.
The reason why Muslim women dress so discretely is because they do not want men to fantasize about them if they were wearing hardly anything like these American girls. They are modest to their religion.
America is the melting-pot. Everyone should try to blend into the overall culture. On the other hand, however, it is good to maintain some of your previous cultural identity as long as it is not hurting anyone else. I like the different types of restaurants here where I'm visiting (AZ), I just wish it wasn't hot as hell.
yes in some ways of your culture like food, education, etc. But not in sex
i know many muslims and most of them
even think it is stupid that the women have to wear that, but my friend (girl) does not wear that or anything on the head and many do not (in London)
America is a multi cultural society. If an Amish man wants to drive a horse and buggy and a Jewish man wants to wear side curls and a mormon woman wants to be part of a polygamous relationship then surely a muslim woman can follow a traditional dress code?
Sounds OK to me. Just don't expect anyone else to assimilate into "foreign" cultures.
BTW - Pissed_limey, don't worry, it'll cool down to 100F when the monsoon hits. But the humidity will jump up instead.
I left Leicestershire to come to Phoenix in 1993 & I ain't dead yet. But I do dread the Summer more, every year - and it's still better weather than England :-)
I dont see why one should change their religion or culture in order to blend-in with Americans, maybe adopt some little things to make it easier. Would anyone from America visiting, say Pakistan start wearing a Saree or a Burka? Or a man visiting Dubai, dress up like a Sheikh?
Yes, as soon as you come from anywhere yo america try to fit into the culture. Still keep in mind that you should also represent your group of people and your native country.
The wearing of the burqua is a one way that muslim women maintain their religious identity, and they wear it to maintain their modesty.
We allow christians to wear crosses and the "WWJD" gear, as well as allow orthodox Jewish women to wear hair coverings.why should we treat the muslims any differently when it comes to their expressions of faith?
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
america is so culturally diverse, come as you are, stay as you are, if you want to look like everyone else, feel free, we dont care. but most of all, just be comfortable.
In my opinion. I have many friends who are Muslim as well as Christian and so on... I feel that if anyone comes to this country, by all means... try to blend and before coming here, try your best to learn our language as it's our country's language of English...learn the language, just as I learn conversational language to the countries I intend to visit or be a part of.
BUT... no matter where you come from, don't lose site of your traditions, morals, ideals and beliefs... after all America is "The land of the free, home of the brave" if it wasn't a place worth wanting to be, no one would be coming here. Besides, if we were all alike, we would be boring! :)
