Why do people squint their eyes when they can't see? Wouldn't that just make it less space to see out of?

Its about narrowing the focus angle. Try this with your hand to understand. The next time you can't clearly see something thats too far, make an OK sign with your hand, and squeeze ur first finger and thumb to make a very very small hole, then see through it. You'll be able to see clearly through it.
Generally, you can't see clearly cos your pupils have a limit to the smallest hole size that it can make to focus. It enlarges the hole for closeup images and minimizes the hole for far away images. This alters how the light rays bend into one point on ur retina.
If your pupils are damaged, or you are short sighted, you might not be able to make a smaller aperture with your pupils, so your eye starts to squint, but it doesnt really help much cos ur eyelids are wide. Its more of a reflex.
i think squinting you eyes makes everything a little clearer. but i get what you mean but people do it sometimes when the suns in their eyes and if they open them wider it will probably just hurt their eyes more.
no. the pupil is what you see out of. squinting closes the rest of the eye leaving and focusing the pupil directing the light only to it clearing up the picture.
Squinting changes the path of light signals that are entering into our eyes. It makes them hit the back of our eyes sockets in a different way than it normally does, making things come into focus more. No, I'm not an eye doctor, but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!! (Only funny if you know the TV commercial I speak of!)
