Why so much anger?

I'm very open minded, and whenever I ask questions or inquire about christianity, I'm often faced with some support, and much anger at my curiosity. Why do you feel that this is?

Answer:
The R&S section is very controversial with people snapping at each other like turtles. I've seen very civil, & helpful answers from Christians (to civil questions) but, many are excessively defensive, as well as not really that well informed about their own religion. (Or truly secure in it.) Defensiveness & insecurity=anger.
OMG ATHIETSS MUST DIE OMG OMG GOD ROX!!1

I'm kidding...but I know what you mean.

Everyone has the right to follow any religion they want. However, this should not give them a license to be ignorant.
religious ppl, don't like things questioned, they just do what they are told, and don't think for themselves, so they really have no anwanser for you and just lash out in anger like they have done for thousands of years
maybe because people dont expect you to question a religion, its pretty much set down, but curiosity never hurt anyone, so i think they shud be calm and answer ur questions
i don't know why the anger at questions. people usually get angry when their religion is attacked not just over inquiries. religion is so important to people that they behave differently in regards to it than they do to most other aspects of their lives.
Some people that are religious do not understand the "why" of their faith. If you want really enlightenment on Christianity you should ask a member of the Clergy. (Priest, minister etc)

In my experience they are very open an honest about their beliefs and the tenants of their faith.

If you usually open with the the first covenant with God (our choice whether to worship God or not) they can explain all about faith etc. Some of the more moderate protestants are very much in touch with today's values.

Hope that helps. :)
I'm Catholic. I don't go to church every Sunday, I don't think that everybody except for Catholics are sinners. I don't think that gays are going to hell, and I'm all for pre-marital sex. I don't buy into all of the crazy rituals of my church, and I don't think our priests are corrupt. I have no problem explaining myself or my religion to others. The only time I do get frustrated with people questioning my faith is when the interrogator is ignorant. Saying all Catholics have sticks up their *, and that all Catholic priests are corrupt, that's like saying that all Mexicans are illegal immigrants, and that all Irish people are drunk. It's these kinds of misconceptions that cause religious debate. We live in a country where we can believe what we want, and being questioned for what we believe, I think, is inappropriate, and you'd feel the same way if somebody questioned your religion. I'm not a very religious person, I curse and I drink alcohol and I smoke, I take the Lord's name in vain, and I find it very offensive that people of other religion's insist on telling us we're stupid for believing what we do, and that their way is right. Curiosity is a different thing, but you might get some angry responses because you're coming off as if you are better, and that we need to explain our personal beliefs to you because we, as Christians, are inferior.
