I think you'd wake up before something "kills" you in your dreams though. Every time I'm faced with the impoosible in my dreams, and it's looking like I'm going to die, I always wake up.
You always wake up before you would die. i assume this because I dream of falling out of bed and I always wake up before I do. Of course I am not a medical doctor and maybe you could get a heart attack if you are predisposed.
I got sliced and shot on many occasions. I don't believe the theory but its a good one.
No not at all, you won't die in real life if you die in your dream. Lots of people can say that they have died in their dreams. If you fell in the lava, you would have probably awakened with wet pants you pansy!

well lucky you then, once i dreamed i jumped off a bridge and didnt make it
i used to have those types of dreams...i used to die in my dreams all the time...yet, i'm still here...hmmm, seems like that theory needs some revising.
