Answer:
Make a speech outline.
Basically copy and paste portions of your speech that are specific and important. Make sure they are in large print so you don't have to struggle.
This gets rid of the index card problem, making it nice and neat.
You can also put little quips in there about speaking slower and breathing.
Also, you can write in hand signs and break times. Like "-BREATHE-" "-WAVE ARMS WILDLY-"
As for dealing with nervousness, realize that in the end, it does not matter. Few people remember it, and that as soon as it is over, most people won't rememebr it.
Dont think about the nervousness. Dont think about what other people are thinking. Just remembr the speech you wrote. Just give it in a rhythmic speaking voice and you will be fine.
Ask people about your past speeches, most people wont remember.
if it is possible, try to prepare and practice what you want to say. do this out loud, not in your head. Also, speak so it sounds like you are talking slow. YOU think you are talking slow, but to everyone else, it will be normal. because when you are speaking to a large group and are nervous you tend to want to speak fast. Also, meditate about speaking to the group. Meaning, each night when you are laying in bed before you fall asleep and you know you have to give a speech or talk to the group, imagine yourself actually DOING it in front of the group. Do it over and over. This will make you feel like when you get in front of the group you have already done it and will feel a lot more at ease. Good luck,. remember, take it slow, and relax...
i understand what you feel... My advices are 1) be prepared your speech, make it days before the final day where you'll speak. Rehearse also or try to memorize some lines. 2) write in an index card some important topics or highlights of your speech... it will help you to remember the sequence one by one, then it for you to explain further each topics. 3) try inhaling and exhaling deeply three times before you speak in your audience.
