Should i quit band?
Answer:
no. definitely don't quit.
play a different instrument.. explore your options. if you lost all self confidence over the flute- try something else.. you're still young..
one thing i love about you- when given the chance, you have the boost of confidence as if you're the best- keep that up! don't get down just because of a try out.
Stick with it. You've had some confidence breakers, but let me tell you, band isn't about being the very best or standing out, it's about blending in. Make friends with the other flautists. (I don't know the correct word for piccolo players).

Do you like it? Don't quit, you'll find some one better. you should try talking to your instructors with your parents. have them explain why your brought down, perhaps have them listen to a tape with out knowing who is playing and then make the assignment to a chair.
Don't get discouraged or lose your self-confidence just because the new band director is not playing fair. Do any of your friends (fellow musicians) feel the same way? Nothing is preventing you from forming your own band or chamber music group, or joining a community youth orchestra. Just to see how much fun that can be, take a look at this video from youtube

I just loved the energy and joy of this! You don't have to be at the mercy of whoever the school digs up.
Hell No!
Theres no reason to just quit, that wont get you anywhere, i mean, sure i can list off a bunch of famous people who failed at something they were remembered for the most, but it would be pointless and come as no consolation to you. Instead of quitting, maybe try a new approach to your problem... ie, alternate groups.
In the end, you really aren't quitting flute, your quitting on yourself, and that is no way to boost your self-confidence. In the end,you will figure it out,and remember, never quit, find alternate solutions.
Absolutely not, especially if you love it and are dedicated to the band itself! The band is like a team and you are part of it, regardless of your chair, instrument or solos you may or may not get. My 2 daughters are in the band and they have gone through these things as well. There are good times and bad times but the band ultimately makes you a better student and adds a lot to your life. Don't give up. Stick in there and show them you loyalty and devotion. It will eventually pay off. It has for my girls.
