I am going to school to be a commercial diver and i am having problems with claustrophobia help!!?

I need help dealing with this problem any suggestions.

there is a type of therapy i have studied in my psy classes that involves forced exposure to the stimuli you fear under as controled conditions as possible. Perhaps that would help. Though hypnotism works on some things like smoking, language learning and eating it would not probaly work in this situation. exposure therpay would probaly be the best

well, what worked for me was just getting used to it. there is a storm drain under my neighborhood that i used to be terrified to go into cause it was so small but all my friends did. everyday i would go deeper until final i got used to it and now i am a lot better.

I'm not saying you should crawl down storm drains but some other form of getting used to small places should help.

Actually, in your case, you should make sure you gain a level of trust with the people you work with. that way you will at least feel comfort that they are looking out for your safety.
Practice is the best way to overcome fear. Once it is time to dive, know that you have already accepted the risks involved and that you are perfectly safe. You have checked all of your equiptment thoroughly, etc. Now concentrate on diving, dom not allow other thoughts or emotions to enter your mind, even fear. It's a zen thing.
Yes. . . I have a suggestion. Face your fear head-on. Be aware of the things you are telling yourself that make you afraid. It is an unrealistic fear. You think the walls are going to close in on you. They're not.

Feeling follows action. A thought is an action. The feelings of fear are a result of your thoughts. Monitor your thoughts. They are the cause of an unrealistic fear. They are what makes a person hyperventilate and feel light-headed. Monitor your breathing. You can beat this. You can take control of your own mind. Do not let it be in charge of you. You take charge over it.

Courage is not the lack of fear, but the mastery over it.
