In what ways are motives and emotions inseparably linked? Can one exist without the other?

..Motives, or intentions, are usually based on rational thoughts. But motives are a key component of motivations. Say you're motivated to achieve a goal. The goal itself may be based on rationally created thoughts - tou have a motive to do that, which is rational. But the motivation is the DESIRE, the WANT to achieve it is based on emotion...the PASSION you bring to achieving that goal.
