What are the careers in psychology?? and who gives them money and who hires them??
Answer:
It's true you can get many kinds of jobs as a psychologist. Therapy or research, each one of those alone can be very broad ranging. As a therapist you can just about earn as much as you want to charge your clients. If you serve the rich and famous, you can charge rich and famous fees.
Research is often conducted by institutions, and most colleges and university faculty are required by their accreditors to do research and publish. So the publishers would pay, foundations and governments pay and schools and other such institutions pay salaries and other expenses.
You can write. Again that's broad. You can write for magazines, write your own books, write for the internet.
You can get government and grant funding. Again that's broad. You can always teach. You can do any of this while being a therapist as well. We tax payers support government funding. Sometimes people leave money which is used to establish grants and scholarships. Grant writing is a small industry in itself because there's a lot to do to apply for grants sometimes.
When my siblings and I inherited money from our parents' estate, we decided we wanted to establish a scholarship fund at a school here in the Midwest and put it in the name of our grandparents. We each contributed an amount which together was enough to offer scholarships to students who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it. Lots of people with money and large corporations have funds established like that.
You can earn as much as the time and energy you wish to invest.
Kedar, you've asked lots of questions about chemistry and physics (I think that's what it was, it was Greek to me) here on Y!A . I'm wondering if you are interested in using your science interest in some way in your future? If so, I imagine there are ways to combine those interests. Forensic sciences come to mind. Doing research to analyze crime data.
I'm sure even if you are interested in something as remote as cooking and baking, that you'd find a psychologist or two in the mix.
So, I think it's key to identify all of your interests and see which of them you can link with psychology. Ask your question again with those added interests. Or give additional information herein and maybe we can help you narrow things down a bit.
The following website is a location where you can do a search on salarys by entering the type of job and the city. Try and see what it says for psychologist. And try defining it more like research psychologist. Anyway. Hope this helps. It's good that you are facing these questions at this time in your life. Also, it's a good thing to do while waiting for Ms. Right! lol.

You get a pretty good wage depending on where you live.
You can be a Forensic, Sport, Community, Clinical psychologist. There are a lot of jobs that have psychology in them.
School, Hospitals, Police departments and heaps of places depending on what area you choose to study.
there are several things you can do with psych degree only you have to get a masters or more...depending on what you like to do really...you can get your masters and get your LCPC and go out on your own...a lot of people meet up in the masters degree program and form relationships which allow them to get together when they are out and into a new business...in doing this you could specialize in psychological evaluations which is pretty good money and if you get hooked up with court or probation you could make some regular money that way...you can work for a mental health center but the pay sucks...you can do research but have to be able to write grants and such...you can teach which depending on the university could pay well...and you could advance your degree...it is a totally fascinating field...another thing you could do is to get your bach in psych and move over to social work and go from there...there seems to be more jobs in that area...you can get an LCSW and more people will go to an LCSW for counseling and such...the money all depends on what you do and where you do it and who you meet to further your situation...hope this helps
Don't go into psychology for the money. For the amount of time you have to spend in school, you can make a lot more money in some other profession - lawyer, physician, dentist, etc.
However, if you have a calling to understand and help others and are willing to put in the time and effort, psychologists can earn a very comfortable salary. if you are employed by an institution, such as a hospital, mental health clinic, school, etc., you would probably make in the range of $60-90,000. Psychologists who are self employed (i.e., are payed directly by their clients or their clients insurance company) can make a lot more, but then they have all the hassles of running a business.
