Nah, if we were being studied we would know about it sooner or later on the frontpage of Yahoo! in a news article coming from Harvard or something..but I think that would be an invasion of privacy if we were to be studied. And I wouldn't like being studied :)
Yes, some scientists go onto Internet forums, messageboards etc. to try and understand how society works.
I don't think that researchers study individual users though.
However, it certainly is possible for other private individuals to "study" the psychological makeup of another user by reading their YA profile.
