How to convince my parents...?

Right now is a very emotional and difficult time in my life. I would really love to have an animal friend through all the craziness in my life. My mother is not an animal person. We have tried getting a dog and a rabbit but both times My mom gave them away. Their personalities were wild. Can anyone think of convincing ways and reasons in which to persuade my mom into letting me get a cat? It would drastically help my mental state of being. Thank You!

Answer:
You have to be responsible to take care of the animal all by yourself and without your mothers help. Maybe she could not tolerate the responsibility. You would need an older quiet cat and one that has been house trained. You would feed it, clean it and take care of all the problems including enough money to pay for its shots and a vet visit.
You may have even more problems with your mother getting a cat.
I have cats and dogs both. Cats can damage furniture and curtains, if you don't know how to train them. You would be better of adopting a small poodle from a shelter, they don't shed and they are very smart and learn very quickly. Labrador Retrievers are wonderful dogs too, but you must have an enclosed yard and they need to be
exercised more. Try to negotiate with your mother, it really depends how much living space you have. If you have a small place, why not a bird, they make wonderful pets too. A parakeet is a great pet, but you must commit to take very good care of any pet you have. Make sure they have clean water at all times and feed them and spend time with them. Good Luck.
You should consider a pet rat. They are very companionable and are not nearly as creepy as everyone tends to believe. There is responsibility in taking care of them but not nearly as much as say a cat or a dog. They are actually the cleanest and smartest of all rodents. I've had 3 growing up and they make very outstanding pets. They are much cheaper as well in both cost of the rat and maintenance. I recommend a 10-gal fish tank with cedar chips for bedding, but don't keep it caged up take it out and play with it let it run around get a ball for it to run around in (make sure it does not have access to stairs). Be aware that they're life span is only about 4 years.
start off by getting a small animal either a baby or a small animal that doesnt get too big. the smaller they are the easier to maintaim and to keep clean. a small dog or a cat which are usually well groomed by them selves and you dont have to do much to keep them clean for your mom. also a small hamster or a gerble.
