I am having the hardess time getting my thoughts to stay on one thing, what are some ways to help?
Answer:
You will never stay focused unless you deal with what is distracting you first the unfinished buisness you have. First write down on a piece of paper the things that pop into your head while trying to write. After a set amount of time an hour or a half hour review this list. Put them in categories that go with each other. Like this is about my friend, this is about work, this is about school.
Pick the ones out you can deal with right away. Then in a notebook write on each page on problem, under each problem write a step by step plan on what to do to fix that problem, baby steps. Take that notebook and put it in a drawer after you done that. Tell yourself now that you have done as much as you can about those things for the moment. That you have written a plan of action.
Try again to focus on the work at hand knowing that you have taken the first step towards working on the distractions. Don't get upset if you still get distracted don't focus on the negative. Focus on how long you wrote and didn't get distractions. Write a list of your strengths and focus on them.
I hope this helps, it might not work it does not work for everyone. I am still just a student.
Been there. Tackle all the issues you are having one at a time. Resolution won't be immediate, but it will be final.
Being in limbo on any problem is the worst thing.
try weed. - or maybe you are in a situation you could scrap everything and start over completely somewhere else where there's alot less pressure and you have less decisions to make and the future can be clearer with a more defined path - or how about letting all the b.s. just take care of itself? that could be the hardest thing to learn but the most beneficial
this helps alot, my uncle taught me this who is the same way.
if your working on something that you cant pay attention to and your mind starts drifting away constantly. then just take like five seconds to space out and let your mind flow. then focus on what your working on. then repeat this everytime you feel like your not focussing well
Pick one small thing on your list that you can accomplish now, and do it. Take the sense of reward and apply it to your writing as a reinforcement for a job well done. If the frittery mind happens again, pick another small task. You might have to knock a few things off your list before you can gather up enough of a sense of accomplishment to focus on what you really want to do. OR. you can just WRITE as its own reward and tell those nagging thoughts to shut up. not with anger and frustration, but with humor, with a sense of understanding yourself and knowing in your inner self that you have every right to cut yourself some slack and do the thing that gives you energy and inspiration to return to the problems (which, one way or another, will always be there, because life is full of 'em).
