If your brain, and therefore memory, doesn't properly develop till your like 4 how come i remember...?
Answer:
While most memories are not properly stored in young children, some studies suggest that early memories can be made, created and stored in an infant's brain.
I remember a dog, who died when I was 1. No one ever mentioned the dog after it was hit by a car, but years later, I told my parents about this dog and described it exactly, even to learning how to walk while holding on to it's curly black coat and the fact that it had a red collar. I described it as waist high, but it was a small dog, it's back coming to my infant waist.
I was also able to describe the linoleum and wall paper that was replaced when I was two. We moved out of the house when I was two and a half. Something else my parents swore they never mentioned.
My daughter remembers a field of tomatoes which she picked and ate and that there was a river at the end of the field. It was the garden we had when she was only two and there was a drainage ditch full of water at the end of the vegetable plot.
And my wife and I never discussed this later in front of her either.
So some memories do get formed, but usually not.
Your brain keeps developing until you are about 20, after which it rewires itself. By the time you are 25, the brain has mostly finished it's growth.
They used to say that as of a certain age, the brain no longer created new brain cells. That after age 25, it was all downhill. We now know that the brain continues to manufacture brain cells until the time a person dies. They are manufactured in a specific place in the brain, then migrate to those sections of the brain that are being used where they settle down and turn into either neurons or support cells.
If you don't try to use your brain however, these new brain cells commit cellular suicide and die. If you do use your brain, trying to learn new things, they settle down and help you learn.
Isn't science amazing? One of the few fields of human activity that is willing to admit when they decided something had to happen one way was wrong and where they will tell the world about it.
could be your brain was developing earlier, or that its actually a false memory (ie people have told you about that time and you believe you remember it)
Obviously research is wrong or your a genius. Choose your pick.
Sometimes these are 'confabulated' memories, i.e. someone has told you about this experience, and your brain 'thinks' it's a real memory. But studies have shown that the hypothalamus develops at a quicker rate in some than others, and it may be a mixture of both.
You said it yourself, it doesn't properly form; but some events imprint early in our brains. I can remember my gt grandmother who died when I was just two.
your brain does not as you say 'properly ' develop until you are 19 so that is incorrect statement.
yes you can remember just make sure that your mum and dad are not filling in lots of blanks by telling you the story of the hospital visit. this way you can make it your own memory even if it is not really.
My best answer that I can think of is..."IF" ones brain does not develop fully (or properly as you put it) until age 4, then they are "just about" in the normal range there..HOWEVER, the human brain is NOT the main and only source of storing and remembering "MEMORY"-So, it is not surprising for people to remember things when they are 2 yrs old like yourself, or even much younger. Humans brains are an organ, the human memory is not, and a child age 1 day old or up until 4 yrs. old can and have been proven to "remember" things stored in their memories as young as a few months old.-Good question
Well the thing is I can also remember things from when i was 2 but not earlier. i heard on that a child memory develope from the ages of 2-4yrs because I can remember things or pre-school and i went from the age of 2years and then we moved and when i was 4. and i can remember a lot of stuff from my kindergarden and that is stuff my parents couldn't tell me but the did happen. and i can even remember dreams that i had before i was 4 and as a matter of fact I can remember my 2nd birthday, that only came to me now and the toys that i got! but i do have a very good memory in general, and when i was 2 we went to a game park with my dads parents and i remember seeing a cheetah drink was where the elephant was and to then that the cheetah was steeling the elephants water, my dad spoke about that now the day and mentioned that the cheetah only had 3 legs but thats not something i remember self.
