My favorite is cognitive therapy. You can find information about that here:

It's based on the fact that depression is often caused by several illogical and false concepts. Learn to change the way you think and perceive the world and you can learn to control depression. Well most days. It's not as quick as medication, but I think it's a better long term solution.
exercise, eat healthy, listen to good music, not country or grunge. Even famous and rich commit suicide. talk to a good friend, co-worker, family member. Everyone suffers from depression, and no one wants to feel sorry for anyone, bc we all deal with it. No one will feel sorry for you not even a psychiatrist, they just want to get on with their life as well. it could be worse, you could not have a meal, not know if your family members are alive, and not have any clothing living in a 3rd world country. Look at the bright sides of your life. People who make you depressed are probably depressed themselves and/or they are not worth the friendship. Hang in there. Be happy. Your life will move on and get better; trust me. Depression is only a chemical imbalance in your brain. There is nothing wroing with you. :)
Sunshine, as much as possible.
Get out and talk to people, as much as possible.
Exercise a little bit every day.
Talking to people who love you no matter what, even when your "warts" are hanging out.
Nuture yourself. Make sure you do 1 thing every single day that makes you feel good.
Let out how you're feeling--if you can't find someone to talk to, write it out.
I've seen the dark hole of depression a few times in my life and these things have helped me to cope. But the absolute best thing has always been talking to someone.
Love and light
Andrew P is so correct.
Other ways of coping are to accept what life gives you. Once you stop feeling that you are a victim or life is unfair, then you have accomplished a big step. (although those may not apply to you).
I had a very horrible childhood and made many bad decisions. I even got not great medical diagnosis recently.
But I am determined not to let things get me down. I focus on any positive thing that happened and keep that playing over and over in my head.
Read positive books or take workshops. I went to a workshop through Quma and it was great. You can buy it on-line. Read positive books. And whatever you do, don't compare yourself to others. The media (magazines and t.v)focuses on high achievers right now. My motto is, "I'm fine with my mediocrity."
Also, medication may help you but it's not a cure. Overcoming depression takes a lot of personal work. You have to be willing to face and work on some aspects of yourself that you want to ignore.
Good luck.
Hi, there are many things you can do which will help with depression.
Take a look at the page in the sources box below for some ideas.
Hope this helps.
Hi! I live alone. My parents are gone and I'm an only child. I know what depression is. Best thing is to keep busy and exercise. Exercise helps a lot. I recently joined a community and am happy. We get to meet once a week for church and during weekdays for a cup of coffee and just to share the things that's going on in our lives. I still have my sad moments when I'm alone at home. But knowing that there are people out there who care about me, my friends, this itself is what keeps me going. Another thing you can do is focus on that one thing that makes you happy and go from there. It gives you something to look forward to each day.
The first step is to admit that you are depressed, which u have done:). Second step is to try to find a core of real friends. Real friends are the ones you can talk to about anything and they will be with u throughout the pain. #rd you will need to start listening to urself and asking yourself what u need in your life to truely make every day worth waking up to.
This all leads to hope. With hope we can move mountains and find the things that truely completes us in this life:)
Yes...start speed walking and then jogging. Your depression will leave entirely.
