Ever had anyone drive very fast down street in middle of night (in quiet neighborhood)?

What they hell are they doing? Showing off? This road isn't even 1/2 a mile long, so they can't drive very long before having to slow down anyway. Isn't it bad for your car to speed up very fast and then slow down suddenly? I doubt this guy has a high quality car as I don't live in too rich of a neighborhood.

Could they be trying to piss someone off who lives on this road?

He/she could also be trying to show off to someone who lives on that road, or someone in the car.
Another possibility is that this driver likes to do dangerous things.

I have seen this and as a person that ride his bike at all hours of the day and night, it angers me to no end. People tend to bend more rules when they drive at night in my experience, which makes it very dangerous for pedestrians and bike riders. No matter how many reflectors that you have on, or what reflective clothing you wear, these fast drivers are a menance.

i think it is definitely showing off. maybe he gets a rush by it, i know sometimes (not in residential areas or on short roads, but regardless) i love to drive REALLY fast late at night, i just love it, no cars around, no people, no light, its great, but in a residential area I'm guessing its just to "be cool" kind of like those people who BLAST their music late at night while driving.
