Why are girls all fake and pretentious?

Because they want attention and are insecure about themselves. By getting more attention and approval from their peers, they feel that their behavior is justified; but nonsense only breeds more nonsense...
I must add that not all girls are like this. If you find one that is intelligent and sincere, then consider yourself lucky because they are few and far between.
not all girls are like that, there are some girls that are down to earth, but you don't see them because other girls are always getting the attention. girls value being socially active because if they don't they'll feel left out

Not all girls are like that! But I think the majority are...I think it's the mass media's fault...They set a standart regarding the behavior of girls.. Their clothes, their way of talking and evetually their way of thinking... Some girls, who don't like this way of behaving, do it anyway probably because their girlfriends are like that and they are afraid of being lef toutside the "circle of friends". There are shalow girls, as well as smart ones.. :P
Those kind of girls are looking for acceptance somewhere.
Being natural is not always as easy as it seems, when people have low self-esteem. Some pick on those type, so they look better to their friends.
Experience is the best teacher. Accept them as they are, and just don't engage in arguments. OR... don't hang out around the ones who put up the front. Then, you might see them from a different light.

I'm a female, and I'm neither fake nor pretentious. It's possible you're spending too much time with your equals.
not all girls are like that and by the way there are guys out there like that also...best advise is to realize your stereotyping so you dont go into another relationship with this attitude.it would screw it up before it even had a chance.
Basically because the are self conscious and are afraid others wont find them attractive. I cant stand stupid girls like that, especially if they are ugly.
I know what you mean about these "fake" types. However, if you're ever going to find happiness with a girl (I'm sure that this is the bottom line here), you must first realize that not all girls are like this. If you are a sincere individual, then eventually you will attract someone of a similar nature. You must be patient and not always look for the package that's the prettiest on the outside. That's not to say that your girl won't come in an absolute lovely package. Best wishes to you and remember not to paint all girls with the same brush. As a female, of course I think that statement is just a stereotype. Granted, the majority of the girls in the world are like that...and I'll tell you why, it's because deep down they are really insecure about themselves. So as a result, they feel like they have to act a certain way in order to be accepted socially.
