Is this abnormal to have this obsession?

I like to count things alot. Like, in 3 or in multiples of 3.
i am constantly, and I mean like 75% of my day when I am awake
i am counting in my fingers anything in 3 and sets of 3.
For no apparent reason.

Also, everytime i look at a clock, I think
of some sort of pointless math equation with it..
For example, say it was "4:24"
I will think to myself that 2 is used to represent the TWO fours.
and 4+4 is 8 and 8 divided by 4 is 2.
or I think of something like that to use all the numbers in some way.

I have always wondered why I did this.

I also like to read everything backwards once I real
it forwards. Just to see if I can say it.

lol Am I weird? or crazy? or is this some kind of problem?
and no, I am not on any medications, don't go to a doctor,
and am 100% completely mentally and physially healthy.

Answer:
You sound like you might have a form of an Anxiety Disorders like OCD (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder) . I have a friend that has a very mild case of this...she has to count the stairs as she climbs up or down...so no talking to her, or she will have to go up and start over again.

I found this online:

Obsessive thoughts
Fear of dirt or germs or overconcern about body smells/secretions or the proper functioning of the body
Overconcern with order, neatness, and exactness
Fear of thinking bad thoughts or doing something embarrassing
Constantly thinking of certain sounds, words, or numbers or a preoccupation with counting or checking
Constant need for approval or the need to apologize
Fear that something terrible will happen or fear of harming yourself or someone else
Compulsive behaviors
Frequently washing hands, showering, or brushing teeth or the overuse of items to hide body smells
Constantly cleaning, straightening, and ordering certain objects
Repeatedly checking zippers and buttons on clothing
Checking lights, appliances, or doors again and again to be sure they are turned off or closed
Repeating certain physical activities, such as sitting down and getting up from a chair
Hoarding objects, such as newspapers
Asking the same question or saying the same thing over and over
Avoiding public places or taking extreme measures to prevent harm to yourself or others
Religious rituals, such as constant silent praying
It is common for children with OCD to need to repeat actions until they feel “just right,” such as going back and forth through a door, going up and down stairs, touching things with their right hand and then their left (symmetrical touch), or rereading or rewriting school assignments.5
sounds like you have obsessive compulsive disorder
I would say this "obsession" is a little abnormal, but I don't think it is bad. Lot of people have lots of different obsessions and you just have a different obsession than everyone else. And that is not a bad thing.
you have ocd
obsessive compulsive disorder.
:)
have fun with that.
read mine backwards!
If you're not really into math, or don't have an overactive imagination, maybe you have OCD. It doesn't really seem like it, though. I wouldn't call that an "obsession". Would you be able to stop if you wanted to? Do you even want to stop?
I used to count things a lot in my mind and with my fingers, like when I walked down stairs, I think I counted in groups of fives. I don't know if that was the only multiple I used, but I can remember doing it. I don't think I do it as much now. I also used to count things other ways. I think that other guy who said it might be OCD is on the right track. You might read some books on it. I got a book on it and it helped explain a lot. I don't know if I'm full-blown OCD, but I had a psychologist (psychiatrist?) tell me he thought I had OCD tendencies at least. Don't feel alone! I think there are some good ways to deal with this and maybe even meds. Ask around from friends and family and find a good therapist to talk to and/or a support group and I think you'll feel less weird about yourself. :)
Actually, it is a form of OCD. Don't worry about it, unless it is really disrupting your life (or others around you).
We all have our habits and quirks. :-) right?
But if you'd like to learn more about it here is a link for you

You have OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as do I. I get obsessive about even #s. I do what I call is "my wierd math thing" I do numbers to get the right answer and then try to validate by doing the opposite and sideways however I feel like going to reduce to it's minimum and expand again. I have made numbers my occupation so I don't obsess like I use to.
About reading I like to start at the back. It takes alot of discipline to start at the front. I start at the front on books after I read the last chapter and I always read magazines backwards.
if this is some weird fetish then that's alright... it's not hurting anyone... a lot of ppl have tsrange fetished... we're human... i think you're fine!
i have OCD too, and my number is 3 as well!
everone has some compulsions...thats normal. its when the obsessions and compulsions start to interfere with your everyday life, that you may want to consider getting help. meds and therapy work very well for OCD.
