Answer:
The Self Help pages on the site in the sources box below will tell you the things I used to help myself beat depression.
Well I took medication but the number one thing that helped was my mom. My dad also suffers from depression so it can be really hard but with my moms faith in me and her help I have been able to over come it.
not feeling sorry for myself and realizing that life is what you make of it. every day is a gift from God, how you live that life.thats a choice.
i understand that this is not always possible and that mental illness does exist. so im not trying to lessen that fact. you just asked how i overcame it.

Following the advice of my therapist, taking my medication. Reading up on the illness, a recommended self help book by my therapist was " Feeling Good" you can read portions of it on line at Amazon. 3 years medication and the will to change my life
GOOD QUESTION!! Where to begin?? Well, first of all I should tell u that I wasn't "diagnosed" as being bipolar/manic depressive until after I had attempted suicide (after drinking alcohol 2.8BAC). This action; attempted close range w/a .380 auto hollow point bullet, nearly took my life & threatened to leave me as a "veggie." However, I was left partially paralyzed on the left side of my body. Through about 2 yrs of intensive therapy & many prayers, I am able to walk, think...
I can honestly tell you that what really helped me out was recognition of my sinful nature (see Colossians 3) Check out this free http://www.e-sword.net [ after download & clicking on help, scroll down to get the free ASV & BBE ver for easier comprehension/comparison]. Also, as I began reading, studying, & hearing the Truth of the Word of God, I began to heal mentally as well as physically. Now, I haven't fully recovered, but I can do more than if I was stuck in a hospital on my back!
I never took any medication, I don't believe in it. I just stopped concentrating so much on myself and my problems and starting appreciating the small gifts of life and helping others without wanting anything in return.
I saw a very experienced and resourceful counselor. He said there are generally two types of depression: Situational depression (don’t need medication, but counselling and behavior therapy) and clinical depression (which needs medication). Mine was a situational one, so I didn’t take medication. I developed my social activities (dance classes, hiking, and soccer) I traveled to my home town to visit my family and friends. The most important one was of course the girl I met there. The romance we had, changed my situation completely. However, my counselor didn’t suggest jumping to a relationship.
I forgot to say : I started to pray regulary and leaning more to God and myself rather than others
