I am scared of the dark what can i do to stop this?
Answer:
Try immersion therapy. All you do is hang around the thing that scares you for a long period of time. In this case, you should probably spend a ton of time in the dark to get used to it. Just dive right it. It will suck at first but you will slowly lose your fear.
It worked with my fear of heights, so it could help you out too.
I used to be scared also, but i didnt have much money or time for that therapy stuff, every night stay in the dark 30 seconds then go up 10 seconds every night and ull see how u and ur eyes get used to it becasue the fear of the dark is basically tou thinking there is something or someone there but you later get used to it :)
Buy a flashlight!
Phobia's (yes, this has become a phobia because you can not function normally) are often a result of a bigger fear. What might attach you? What is out there? Where did this fear come from?
Go during the day and walk the area and look into every part. There is nothing there. The night you go out bring a flashlight and a pocket knife. If you hear something (and probably you will) then go into the area that you now know because it was explored and look at it with the flashlight. The knife is just to make you feel better. keep that in your pocket.
Well I agree with the first answer, and get advice/help from people you can count on. When you are in your room at night (in bed), expose yourself to a little bit of light. For an example, turn on a lava lamp or a night light. (If you have one.) Those lights will give you a little lighting, and bettern then none.
If you ever have a "power failure," keep a flashlight and working batteries with you. Candles and matches are also something you can have around, for "power failures." But be careful with the matches, and don't leave the candles unwatched. This will help.
There's nothing wrong with being apprehensive about venturing into unknown dark places. That's part of what enabled the human race to succeed. However, being afraid to walk into your own dark bedroom or turning out the lights at bed time is another matter. If that is your problem and you are older than fifteen or sixteen then you really need to seek some psychological help.
Make sure you seek out a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist since the latter will likely only drug you up with anti-anxiety pills while the former will actually address the underlying cause of your fear.
Listen to worship songs when you go to sleep. Also pray before you go to sleep
I'm guessing you watch to many horror movie's were a group of horny teenagers go camping in the woods and the big bad monster only comes out at knight to kill the black people first and then wait till a hot white chick is taking a shower a kills her and then the rest eventually follow.
I've had a similar problem. IT'S ALL IN YOUR HEAD, if you go outside in the dark more often your fear starts to become less.I suggest you go for a walk every now and then outside your house by yourself until your comfortable with it.
