Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know?
Answer:
It's perfectionism at it's best (IE worst)...
When you know more you see more about what could be better and/or how much it would take to make it better.
That makes it easy to always want to be working at something...and so focused on that work you forget to enjoy the moment.
It's best not to judge, though...many people are dead serious at work but completely wild at home to "balance it out"...I've been there. Others may not be "happy", so to speak, but instead fulfilled and actually more "secure" about their own esteem than so called "happy" people.
But if you ask someone you thought was dead serious about their hobbies, or even why they like what they do, you might be surprised it reveals a lot more risky nature and wildness than some traditional partygoer would have. Many serious workers I know do marathons or safaris on weekends and/or do their technical work with wildly social intentions (think the creators of MySpace who originally did it to promote their band).
Take a second look...it might surprise you...
That's because they REALLY know what's going on...That has to be incredibly depressing..
Not necessarily true though. I know a ton of very intelligent people who are always laughing and having a good time, love them some beers.
Often, but not always.
True, they understand what is going on more than everybody...
The good and the bad.
Rare, yeah. But not the rarest.
Definitely more rare than happiness in the average person or even the standard fool/idiot. Ignorance is bliss, but once you know, you can't go back.
"If ignorance is bliss than why are there so many unhappy people in the world?" Every coin has two sides my friend.
There have been some studies that show a strong corelation between intelligence and depression. Although that doesn't mean causation it does show that there is a strong relationship.
I am intelligent and I find happiness hard to come by. I find myself bored with life and depressed at life's situations. I'm a realist as well, so I never see it as turning out bad or turning out good, it's going to turn out usually exactly how I figure it is. Depressing. I can see what it's so rare...
