Why the condition of society surrounding us can influence our personality?

Answer:
Because we as humans have to learn everything. We have to learn how to talk, walk, eat, everything. SO we are very influential. Until one is very firmly fixed in the Absolute Truth they can be tossed around by the waves of material existence and the influences of others. IF you want to learn how to become strong in Truth and not waver read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada, tells the purpose of human life. One has to know discernment and what is truth to not be influenced by other rascals.
Simple example:
Hypothetically, you are 16 years old, your mother is a drug addict, and your father is in jail. You live in the ghetto and you have 6 other siblings.
How do you think the condition of your family can influence your personality?
Well, think of society as a huge family and everything that happens to your surrounding will influence your personality more or less depending on your proximity.
