our generation is more of independent these days taking into account the fact of the advancements taking place in our society where in they have to go through lots of things as simple as commuting for studies to as tough as making up for there own pocket money and in the proces making decisions on their own.
i guess that would depend who 'ours' referred to in your question but there are two other choices - co-dependent and inter-dependent - and i have seen youngsters of all times and places i've seen do ALL of the above. one thing you might think about though is how fear of strangers has changed western culture for children...the rise of on-line relations(does that encourage dependence on a machine? or independence form your family and geographical location?)

i'd say dat we are independent of superstitions and social taboos...
we try our hands on new things & gain success henceforth.
bt we are highly dependent on gadgets & gizmos wich have made d foundations of our life.

Our youth is surely dependent on us in case of money matters but when it comes to the decision making they say now we are grown up and we can take our own decisions.
Now a days youth has been more selfish and are finding the means to earn more and more no feelings at all.
But few have made the difference to our society on those shoulders our cultural values and ethics are still holding its place.
