French and Richards (1993) is the classic clock/memory experiment.
A group was asked to look at a clock, then draw it from memory. They all used pre-existing knowledge of Roman Numerals to represent the Number 4 as IV.
In fact, if you look at a clock face with Roman Numerals, the 4 is usually represented as IIII.
This showed that the subjects were not drawing what they had seen, but what they knew about Roman Numerals.

Look for reconstructive memory or picture recall in academic databases or online journals. Google doesn't always give the best results for academic topics. I assume you are doing this research for school; check the school library it should have a subscription to online databases that have this info. A quick search of EBSCO for "picture recall" turned up 56 results; "reconstructive memory" another 44. Good luck this sounds interesting.
